A sitting Politburo member is out. A rare Xi-led PLA meeting follows. State media won’t connect either story.
The Party removed Ma Xingrui from the Politburo, and on April 13 Xi Jinping chaired a rare high-level PLA meeting that Vision Times reports is drawing analyst attention as a possible new wave of purges and ideological tightening inside the armed forces. Global Times, the CCP’s English-language megaphone, is running Taiwan sovereignty language, a PLA Navy Type 055 destroyer showcase, and US arms-sale grievance today. It is not running Ma Xingrui’s name, and it is not covering the PLA meeting. The wall between internal discipline and external narrative is unusually clean.
Externally, the pressure cycle tightens. Taiwan’s opposition leader Cheng Li-wun met Xi personally this week, framed by The Diplomat as a domestic-KMT play as much as a cross-strait one. Ten Taiwanese were indicted today for passing classified military information to China. The US Iran port blockade went live Monday; within 24 hours Xi and Spain’s PM jointly condemned US-Israel action, Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang was dispatched to Turkmenistan for a Galkynysh Phase 4 groundbreaking that reroutes Chinese energy around Hormuz, and the US threatened tariffs if Beijing aids Iran militarily. The pattern reads as internal pressure, externalized.

Global Times — the CCP’s English-language megaphone — is loud today on Taiwan sovereignty, a PLA Navy Type 055 showcase, US arms-sale grievance, and Xi condemning “the law of the jungle.” It is silent on Ma Xingrui’s removal and silent on the April 13 PLA meeting. Two of the most consequential internal stories of the week are walled off from the external narrative. The wall is the weakness.
