DASA Research & Technology (SAAL-ZT)

SAAL-ZT oversees the Army science and technology enterprise. It manages the Army research portfolio and serves as the ASAALT interface to DEVCOM and the Army Research Laboratory, where the basic and applied research actually gets done. It is the office that decides which technologies the Army funds before they are programs.
