USSOCOM

USSOCOM is the unified combatant command for special operations, headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. It organizes, trains, and equips special operations forces from all the services, and unusually for a combatant command it holds its own acquisition authority under Title 10 U.S.C. 167 with its own funding line, Major Force Program 11. That combination lets it buy SOF-peculiar equipment directly rather than waiting on the services.
