Mission
Deter and defeat threats to U.S. interests in Africa; strengthen partner defense capabilities
USAFRICOM is a unified combatant command established by the President, through the Secretary of Defense and with the advice and assistance of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, under 10 U.S.C. § 161 and designated in the Unified_Command_Plan; no section of Title 10 establishes it by name, and its commander’s authority, direction and control over assigned forces comes from 10 U.S.C. § 164(c), as mapped at Title_10_Structure.
