United States Army Europe and Africa
USAREUR-AF is the theater army for two combatant commands at once - USEUCOM and USAFRICOM - from a single headquarters in Wiesbaden. The Army_Transformation_Initiative gave it III_Corps, adding a heavy armored corps to a theater already running the largest sustained U.S. Army presence outside the continental United States.

Mission
USAREUR-AF sets the theater for land operations across Europe and Africa, provides Army forces to two combatant commanders, and manages the reception, staging, onward movement, and integration of rotational forces flowing from the United States. Its dominant planning problem is NATO’s eastern flank; its secondary problem is a resource-thin, geographically enormous Africa mission executed largely through SETAF-AF.
It is also the Army’s principal interoperability laboratory: everything it fields must work alongside NATO allies, which drives standardization, coalition network requirements, and foreign military sales pull.

Why it matters
Ukraine turned this theater into the Army’s live-fire lessons-learned engine. Counter-drone, electronic warfare, counter-battery, loitering munitions, and expendable-mass concepts are validated or discredited by what happens on NATO’s eastern flank, and USAREUR-AF is the Army’s collection point for that. Counter_UAS and electronic warfare requirements that later show up in CPE_Intelligence_Spectrum_Warfare and CPE_Defensive_Fires portfolios usually originate here.
Security assistance and FMS pull is enormous. European rearmament has driven allied procurement of U.S. Army systems - Patriot, HIMARS, Abrams, Bradley, Javelin, integrated air and missile defense - executed through USASAC and DASA_Defense_Exports_Cooperation. USAREUR-AF is the operational advocate that makes those cases move.
Prepositioned stocks and infrastructure. Army Prepositioned Stocks-2 in Europe, the Powidz site in Poland, and the associated storage, maintenance, and sustainment contracts are a standing multi-hundred-million-dollar line managed with AMC and Army_Sustainment_Command. USACE Europe District executes the military construction.
Interoperability is a requirement, not a nice-to-have. Coalition-releasable networks, NATO Federated Mission Networking compliance, and cross-domain solutions are hard technical requirements here. A product that cannot pass data to allies has a ceiling in this theater.
Africa is a small-dollar, high-access market. SETAF-AF operates on a modest budget with outsized demand for ISR, logistics-over-the-shore, medical, and training services delivered by contractors rather than formations.
