Mission

Synchronize planning of global SOF operations against terrorist networks; provide SOF to Geographic Combatant Commanders; when directed, conduct operations

USSOCOM is established by 10 U.S.C. § 167, which provides that the principal function of the command is to prepare special operations forces to carry out assigned missions and, at § 167(e)(4), gives the commander responsibility for development and acquisition of special operations-peculiar equipment together with the authority to exercise the functions of the head of an agency under chapter 137, an authority no other combatant command holds, as mapped at Title_10_Structure.
